"Back in day" there was a limited range of 'Board Bags' and they were mainly for overseas travel and to try and survive the trauma of the airline luggage handlers, so they were "Heavy Duty" and after your trip ended up under your bed stinking your room out.
Now we have a range of bags more suited to your needs.
First Up - Board Sox (or Board Socks - depending on where you are from).
These are light weight fabric stretch covers, made from a cotton / poly mix (a bit like your favourite socks). Most have a reinforced nose cone and a pull cord closure around the tail.
They are great to local trips to the beach, with your board inside your car (or on the roof unless its raining!) and they keep your wax on your board and off your car seats, keep the sun of your board and give a bit of protection against bumps and clunks.
They also make a great towel and warm weather sleeping bag!
Next up - Day Bags
These look more like a 'board bag' with padding and a nylon finish, a carry handle and shoulder strap.
Whilst they are 'Heavier' in term of padding these are not 'airline' bags - but good for a trip down the coast, board on the roof or under a pile other boards in the back of the Van. They will soak up a decent bump and keep you board pretty well safe from most 'things' that these trips can encounter.
Finally - Travel Bags or Airline Board Bags
These are the 'Daddies' of the board bag family - with thick reinforcing and extra padding nose and tail. Available as Single, Double and Triple board options.
Most are 'board shaped' but some come in 'coffin bags' options - these tend to have a full zip around the outside and then foam sleeves that sit between your boards.
